The Effect of Mustard Gases upon a Property of Nucleated Erythrocytes and Their Ghosts.

چکیده
uses of ailcylating reagents (1, 10) including those derived from the sulfur and nitrogen mustard gases, is the occasion for the publication of the details of an investigation conducted between 1943 and 1946 in the Department of Chemistry of New York University College of Medicine under a contract with OSRD (OEM8r1O5O). The material has been set forth in a final report (OSRD No. 6665) which has been referred to in the open literature (3, 8). It does suggest an approach to the problem of the effect of mustards on cells substantially different from the one currently considered, which is that the reaction of the alkylating agent with nucleoprotein, usually deoxyribo nucleic acid (DNA), is primary to all effects, cytostatic, mutagenic, and cytotoxic (10, p. 92). The experimental base of the different approach is that a measurable physical property of the membranes or stroma undergoes a rapid and substantial change on

Investigation of Changes in Nucleated Red Blood Cells in Neonatal Infection
Background: Early diagnosis is paramount to the treatment of neonatal infections. Nucleated red blood cells (NRBCs) are immature erythrocytes that increase in number due to stress and hypoxia. This study was conducted to determine NRBC count in the peripheral blood and examine its significance as a marker of neonatal infection. Methods: This case-control study was conducted on 154 infants (78 ...
متن کاملPotent radioprotective effect of herbal immunomodulator drug (IMOD) on mouse bone marrow erythrocytes as assayed with the micronucleus test
Background: Although numerous natural or synthetic drugs have been tested for their radioprotective capacity, yet no suitable drug has been introduced for routine clinical use. In this study the radioprotective effect of "a new herbal immunomodulator" commercially known as IMOD, specifically made to decrease the side effects of HIV virus, was investigated on mouse bone marrow cells. M...
متن کاملProtective Effect of Quercetin on Oxidative Stress in Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase-Deficient Erythrocytes in Vitro
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficient subjects are vulnerable to oxidative stress. Quercetin, a flavonoids, has been employed as a potent oxygen-free radical scavenger in order to assess the protective effects of quercetin against H2O2-induced oxidative damage in G6PD-deficient and normal human erythrocytes. Erythrocytes of G6PD-deficient (n = 10) and normal (n = 10) subjects were ...

متن کاملPotent radioprotective effect of therapeutic doses of ranitidine and famotidine against gamma-rays induced micronuclei in vivo
Background: Previous investigations have revealed, cimetidine, a histamine H2-receptor antagonist, show radioprotective effects against gamma- and neutron-induced micronuclei in bone marrow erythrocytes. In this study, the anticlastogenic effects of famotidine and ranitidine, which act similar to cimetidine as histamine H2-receptor antagonists, was investigated. Materials and Methods : Balb/c m...
